Earthquakes rattle three U.S. locations

As those in Turkey are attempting to pick up the pieces from a deadly earthquake Sunday, many homeowners across the U.S. are also seeing if they need to file any earthquake insurance claims after three states were hit by tremors in the span of just 24 hours.

Earthquake damage is not included in standard homeowners insurance policies, and must be purchased separately.

Separate quakes of varying intensities shook residents in Hawaii, Texas and northern California just before the weekend.

The strongest incident was a 4.8 magnitude event which unsettled many homeowners near San Antonio, Texas. While the area has felt a number of smaller events during the past few decades, this was the most intense earthquake ever in the area, breaking an 18-year-old record.

Just before that, Hawaiian residents were shaken by a 4.5 magnitude earthquake.

The most active region in recent days, however, has been California's Bay Area. Since withstanding a 4.0 magnitude quake, the Berkeley area was the location of at least eight distinct earthquakes from Thursday through Saturday. Officials said there have been no reports of serious injuries, but some residents told The Associated Press their properties experienced minor damage.
