Hot tub sparks fire at Wisconsin home
Mechanical problems with a hot tub are being blamed for starting a fire at a Wisconsin home this week, although a quick response from firefighters managed to keep the damage mostly contained.
Officials told the Green Bay Press-Gazette the fire that started early Tuesday morning was accidental and may have started because of an overheated motor in the hot tub.
The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage, but officials said it could have been much worse. The blaze spread to an enclosed patio room located nearby, but firefighters were able to put it out in less than an hour, and before it spread to the rest of the house. The home's residents were home, but they were able to get out safely.
Residents who have a hot tub or Jacuzzi should be aware that the additions can be a significant fire risk, and adjust their home insurance policies accordingly. A hot tub was also determined to be the source of a recent fire at a Montana home which caused more than $150,000 in damage, according to the Laurel Outlook.
