Locals chip in to get soldier new kitchen
A Colorado man claims a homeowners insurance company backed out of paying for the cost of replacing his kitchen after mold and water damage was discovered, local television station KRDO reports. But his neighbors are willing to help.
The man, Alex Bond, said the previous homeowner's insurance company looked into the matter and agreed to pay for the expenses needed to restore the kitchen, the station reports. But once the work began, Bond alleges the insurer - American Family - changed its mind. The insurer denies having ever agreed to pay for the claim, saying it wasn't a covered issue.
After being made aware of KRDO's report, a local contractor and several area companies offered to fix up Bond's home for free.
"There was no time to waste for a settlement with the insurance company or a lawsuit," said Bill Young, the man who volunteered to restore Bond's kitchen and owner of a local construction company, in an interview with the source. "Somebody's got to take care of this. In two weeks, he's gone."
The station reports Bond will soon be headed to the Middle East for his third deployment.
A previous report by the news source said Bond had hired an attorney to investigate the insurance issue.
