North Carolina official visits with locals affected by Hurricane Irene
North Carolina's insurance commissioner has received multiple complaints from residents who have filed homeowners insurance claims in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene. As a result, he recently toured the state to field policyholders' concerns.
According to the North Carolina Department of Insurance, commissioner Wayne Goodwin is working with local residents who have been discouraged by the claims process, as several allege they have been mistreated by insurers. Recently, he visited with eastern and coastal residents of the state to get an understanding of their individual circumstances.
"I have been in direct contact with insurance companies and the National Flood Insurance Program to put pressure on them to do what's right for policyholders," said Goodwin. "When it comes to insurance, I will assist and advocate for the residents of North Carolina in whatever way I can."
To help residents with their concerns, Goodwin's office has established several insurance assistance centers throughout the state. He said residents who have any questions regarding claims should visit these facilities and bring their policy information with them.
