Pennsylvania lawmaker urges quicker claims processing
After the state suffered severe storm and flood damage by Tropical Storm Lee and Hurricane Irene, officials in Pennsylvania are asking insurance companies to speed claims processing as winter approaches.
Many residents filed homeowners insurance claims with their insurance companies following the storms. However, Senator Bob Casey says that there are still many claims which haven't been closed weeks later, which has left families waiting.
"I appreciate insurance providers' ongoing efforts to process claims and provide relief to victims," Senator Casey said in a letter to the Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania. He asked insurers to "redouble efforts to quickly process all remaining flood insurance claims so that the people of our Commonwealth have the resources they need to recover and rebuild in the wake of this disaster."
He added that the National Flood Insurance Program estimates it has completed roughly 75 percent of its flood insurance claims from Pennsylvania resulting from the two storms.
Casey previously asked the U.S. Small Business Administration to reduce the interest rates for disaster loans to help local small business owners rebuild more rapidly.
