Tennessee home catches fire twice in same night

A report says firefighters were called to the same Tennessee residence twice in one night - but the two blazes each had separate causes.

Investigator Brad Johnson of the Carter County Sheriff's Department told the Johnson City Press that an unattended iron left in a bedroom sparked the first fire at the Elizabethton home last Monday evening. Later that same night, firefighters returned to battle a fire caused by a lit candle in another bedroom, which fell off a window sill and onto the bed. It was not reported how much the damage cost in terms of homeowners insurance losses, but Johnson did tell the source the entire property suffered significant smoke and heat damage.

The property is owned by Carol Dean Fields, who told investigators she was ironing clothes before deciding to visit her next door neighbor. By the time she returned, she could see smoke pouring from her home, she told the paper.

Elsewhere, a separate Tennessee fire sent two residents to the hospital. Fire officials told WMC-TV that one resident of the Oakland home is in critical condition and the other in serious condition after being pulled from the fire by an Oakland police officer.
