Tornadoes take lives in Oklahoma, Arkansas
At least nine people died after a series of violent tornadoes tore through parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas early Friday morning.
Reports say seven people were killed near Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as another two in Oklahoma after several tornadoes produced a severe amount of damage across the South. Damage was also reported in Mississippi, though official figures on the number of casualties were not provided. Hundreds of homeowners across each state were scrambling to assess the damage and contact homeowners insurance companies.
According to Reuters, one Little Rock homeowner reported as many as 11 downed trees in her yard alone. The potential for more severe storms threatened a number of local sporting events, including a NASCAR race at Talladega Superspeedway.
Property insurance companies and meteorologists have warned homeowners around the country about the potential for significant spring storms. Wisconsin homeowners are still cleaning up after experiencing as many as 10 confirmed tornadoes last week.
