Weekend snow storm hits Salt Lake Valley
Residents in Utah's Salt Lake Valley endured a 40 degree temperature drop between Saturday and Sunday, which also ushered in a snow storm that caused numerous auto accidents and widespread property damage.
Utahns were checking auto and homeowners insurance policies after the storm dropped as much as a foot of snow in some places Sunday morning, according to reports, and power outages across the state left thousands residents without electricity for much of the night. Much of the damage occurred on the region's roads, where a 10-car pileup and a series of collisions that involved seven vehicles were just two of the many incidents reportedly caused by the storm. No one was seriously injured.
It was actually fairly normal for April weather in Utah, said experts.
"We tend to get snow throughout much of the month of April. It's a bit heavy for this time of year, but we expect the fluctuation between warm, sunny weather like we had earlier this weekend and the cool, stormy weather that we have today," Steve Rogowksi, National Weather Service meteorologist, told the Salt Lake Tribune.
KSL-TV meteorologists added homeowners could be in for more flakes this week - separate storms coming in overnight Wednesday and Friday are expected to be cold enough to produce snow.
