Residents in Iowa will continue to deal with severe weather in the coming days, according to forecasts.

A number of homeowners insurance claims have likely been filed after hail and wind gusts of over 50 miles per hour damaged rooftops and led to heavy rains across the state, according to several reports. The Associated Press said rains led to flooding and the closure of a portion of Iowa Highway 92 earlier this week, and the National Weather Service said some areas saw up to 5 inches of rain. Flash flood warnings were issued for several counties, and power outages around Des Moines were linked to thunderstorms.

Heavy winds tore the roof off a rural building in Johnson County, said the AP. Forecasters told KCCI-TV that another 1.5 inches of rain and wind up to 45 miles per hour are likely, though some cities have reported gusts up to 60 miles per hour. Still, forecasters told the source large hail remains the biggest threat to Iowa homeowners as the storm progresses.

The latest string of storms comes just a week after one system spawned high winds and funnel clouds in some Iowa counties. Around 5,000 homes lost power due to last Wednesday's storms, reported KCRG-TV.
