The power recently went out and all of the food in our fridge spoiled, does our home insurance cover that?

Most home insurance policies do cover up to $500 worth of property (food) stored in freezers or refrigerators on the premises due to loss of power. However, that only applies if the freezer or refrigerator is in proper working condition prior to the loss. Also, there is typically no deductible for this type of claim. Coverage for this type of property is called “Contents Coverage” and includes the contents of your home, or personal belongings, including clothing, furniture, electronics, etc. You can find out more about Contents Coverage on our What Does Home Insurance Cover? Page.
